Fit in 5 Minutes

The #1 reason why people who want to exercise don’t actually get around to the act of exercising? Time. We just don’t have the time. I have met with countless people who had just bought a gym membership, but have yet to figure out a solution to that time problem...they ultimately end up paying and never using.

I’m here to tell you…you don’t need a ton of time…

Non-negotiable habits

I want you to think about all of the things that you are sure to do on a daily basis. Some examples include showering/bathing, shaving, and brushing your teeth. These are tasks that are good for our health and have truly become non-negotiable. Brushing your teeth only takes a few minutes each day and yet has a huge impact on your health.

Can’t a few minutes of exercise also have a huge impact on your health? We do things like brushing our teeth without even thinking about them, because they have become routine. They have become habit. And you very likely would not leave the house without doing them – they are non-negotiables.

If you are reading this – the chances are that you are struggling to make exercise a part of your regular routine. So…how about if you made daily exercise a non-negotiable? Made it one of those things that you want to do before the end of the day?

This ‘better than nothing’ strategy can help.

I’m here to give you a place to begin… First, you want to find 5 minutes a day to intentionally use and move your body. I want you to think about your daily routine - where can you fairly easily find 5 minutes EACH DAY? When you first wake up? While the coffee is brewing? While dinner is in the oven? Second, you plan to do the exact same thing for 5 minutes each and every day for that first week. *I want to note here that our routines often differ on the weekends. I encourage you to find 5 minutes in your weekend routine, even if it differs from the weekday time.

Fit in 5 minutes

Here is a suggestion for your ‘Better than nothing’ workout circuit:

10 bodyweight squats

5 pushups

10 bridges

:30 plank

You can complete this circuit once OR repeat as many times as you have time for in that 5 minutes you set aside. Let me reiterate the importance of finding 5 minutes each day – at generally the same time - as your intent is to make this part of your routine. This is where you begin.

You do not need to workout for 30 minutes nor an hour to reap benefits. I’ve known people whose “better than nothing” workouts have led them to being in the best shape of their lives. How is that? First, consistency. Consistent deposits of effort over time. Second, the most difficult part is getting started...beginning with the “Better than nothing” workout will lead to longer workouts and more movement in your daily life.
